If you were to picture Washington DC as a diamond, Colonial Village is located on the northern most tip, bordered by Montgomery County, Maryland, Sixteenth Street and Rock Creek Park. Colonial Village is primarily a residential neighborhood, with the only exceptions being the large campus of a private elementary school and several houses of worship. The homes in the neighborhood range from large stone Tudors dating back to the 1920s and 30s, to more contemporary Colonial styled homes built as recently as the early 2000s. There is also a mix of split level and large ramblers dating from the 1950s and 60s in the section of the neighborhood referred to as North Portal Estates. With the grand scale of many of its homes, Colonial Village has traditionally been home to the embassies of several countries, as well as professionals from a variety of fields along with many senior officials with the DC and Federal governments.
Along with its elegant homes, the most noticeable feature of the Colonial Village neighborhood is the way in which Rock Creek Park is ever present. In addition to bordering the main section of park, there are several small tributaries that actually run through the neighborhood. In addition to adding to the beauty of Colonial Village, Rock Creek Park also provides an endless supply of outdoor activities and amenities. The other major influence on the neighborhood is its proximity to the newly revitalized downtown Silver Spring. Just blocks from Colonial Village are Discovery Communications’ world headquarters, dozens of new restaurants, shops & art galleries, along with Metro. It is also extremely convenient to Bethesda and downtown DC.
